Large group hotel booking in Amsterdam is shaped by one rule. Since January 1, 2024, coaches heavier than 7.5 tonnes may not enter the city center inside the S100 ring road without a permit, and permits are limited to purposes such as primary school trips and transport for people with disabilities. In practice, a full-size tour coach cannot deliver a group to a canal-side hotel.
Costs have also risen. Since January 2026 the Netherlands charges 21% VAT on hotel rooms, up from 9%, and Amsterdam adds a tourist tax of 12.5% of the room price. Tulip season (Keukenhof, spring), King's Day on April 27 and Amsterdam Dance Event in October push demand up.
Hotels inside the canal ring work only if the group walks in or transfers by smaller vehicles, which adds time for luggage.
