What makes group hotel booking in Florence different

Large group hotel booking in Florence starts with the coach, not the hotel. The whole city is a limited traffic zone for tour buses (ZTL Bus), active 24 hours a day, every day. A coach may only enter with a paid pass bought online in advance, must follow set routes, and may stop only at authorized points. Since July 1, 2025, cameras fine coaches without a valid pass.

The historic center is compact but its hotels are mostly small, with narrow streets a coach cannot use. That is why most coach groups stay on the edge of the center or just outside the city, and why the choice of hotel changes both the pass you need and the daily transfer time.

Where tour groups should stay in Florence

  • Novoli and Fortezza da Basso. Larger hotels between the exhibition grounds and Santa Maria Novella station, on the T2 tram line, near the Viale XI Agosto coach park. The first area to fill during Pitti Uomo fashion fairs in January and June.
  • Florence North (Sesto Fiorentino, Osmannoro, airport area). Big business hotels close to the A1 and A11 motorways, with more space for coaches and lower rates. Transfers into the center take longer at rush hour.
  • Scandicci. Modern hotels on the T1 tram line, which runs directly to Santa Maria Novella station, so guests can go into town without the coach.
  • Campo di Marte and the east side. Mid-size hotels near the stadium, where the city allows coach parking on non-event days, and a short train or bus ride to the center.

Hotels for groups in Florence: where the large blocks are

The 8 hotels listed on this page were chosen for group business: 118 to 327 rooms each, 4★, with a group desk that handles rooming lists and one contract per block. The largest blocks for a full coach in Florence are at Grand Hotel Mediterraneo (327 rooms, Lungarno del Tempio (east of the center)), DoubleTree by Hilton Florence Metropole (212 rooms, West Florence (Via del Cavallaccio)) and Grand Hotel Baglioni (187 rooms, Santa Maria Novella). Hotels of this size can usually hold 25 to 50 twin rooms on one contract, which is what a 45 to 50 passenger coach needs.

Corporate travel accommodation in Florence works the same way. Incentive groups, conference delegations and company trips get a group rate, one rooming list and one invoice, and the same hotels serve both markets. Hotels with meeting space on this page include Grand Hotel Mediterraneo, Grand Hotel Baglioni, NH Firenze.

Which is the best hotel for a group in Florence depends on the itinerary more than on the lobby: coach access, parking and the distance from the center decide how the day runs. Compare the hotels below by district and distance, add the ones that fit to your request, and the desk confirms group availability and the rate for your dates within 48 hours.

Coach logistics: parking, drop-off and driver rooms

  • Passes: sold only online by Servizi alla Strada for the city. Under the 2025 tariff, a daily ordinary pass for a Euro 6 coach over 8 m cost 315 euros, and a hotel pass cost the same plus 90 euros per extra night, valid until 7 pm the day after the last night. New, higher rates apply from September 1, 2026. Discounted school passes are valid only November to March.
  • Drop-off: authorized stops include Piazza Vittorio Veneto, Piazzale Michelangelo, Piazza Savonarola (drop-off only) and Largo Vincenzo Giudice for station transfers, each with a short time limit.
  • Parking: coach parks include Viale XI Agosto, Via Palazzeschi, Viale Visconti Venosta, Piazzale Galileo and the stadium area.
  • Driver rooms: singles for the driver and guide in the group hotel, in the same contract.

Florence changes its bus rules often; we check the current tariff for each booking.

Group types we place in Florence hotels

  • Adult coach tours on Italy circuits, typically 2 or 3 nights with day trips to Pisa or Siena.
  • Student and study abroad groups, usually in 3★ hotels with twins and triples near a tram line.
  • Faith and pilgrimage groups combining Florence with Assisi and Rome.
  • Food and wine groups using Florence as a base for Chianti.

Sample itineraries with a Florence stop

  • Rome and Florence: about 275 km from Rome, often with a stop in Orvieto or Assisi.
  • Florence, Bologna, Venice: about 260 km to Venice, with lunch in Bologna or Padua.
  • Florence with Pisa and Siena: two day trips from one Florence hotel, which saves a hotel change.

Coaches come from our sister company: charter bus in Italy. For the bus rules, see Florence ZTL zones for buses.

Group hotels in Florence: FAQ

Which Florence hotels take groups of 50?

A full coach of about 50 guests needs roughly 25 twin rooms plus singles for the driver and guide. Few hotels in the historic center have that many rooms, so most blocks of that size go to larger hotels in Novoli, Florence North or Scandicci. The hotel list on this page shows large properties, and we confirm which ones accept your block, rate and release date.

Is there coach parking at Florence hotels?

Hotels outside the center, especially near the motorway exits north of the city, are the most likely to have space for a coach. Inside the city every coach needs a ZTL Bus pass, and hotels in the historic center usually cannot be reached by a full-size coach. We record the parking and access answer for each hotel in the proposal.

How early should we block rooms in Florence for May–June?

Block rooms 10 to 12 months ahead for May and June. Florence has a small hotel stock for its visitor numbers, spring is peak season for tour and student groups, and Pitti Uomo takes rooms in June. Groups booking inside 4 months can still be placed, generally outside the city and with fewer hotel choices.

Can you book Florence plus the next stop in one contract?

Yes. We handle Florence together with the next cities on your tour, for example Rome or Venice, and send one proposal with one contract and one invoice for all hotels. Each hotel keeps its own release date and cancellation terms, which we list side by side so your team sees every deadline for the whole tour in one place.

Do Florence hotels charge a group city tax?

Yes. As of 2026 Florence charges 6 euros per person per night at 3★ hotels and 7 euros at 4★ hotels, for up to 7 consecutive nights. Children under 12 are exempt, and the city lists a reduction for some school groups on educational visits. A 50-guest group pays 300 to 350 euros per night in tax, and we show it as a separate line.

What are the best hotels for large groups in Florence?

For a group of 40 to 50 people, the most realistic blocks in Florence are at the largest hotels on this page: Grand Hotel Mediterraneo, DoubleTree by Hilton Florence Metropole and Grand Hotel Baglioni. Groups of 15 to 25 rooms have more choice, including smaller 4★ hotels closer to the center. We confirm availability, group rate and release date per hotel for your dates.

Do you arrange corporate travel accommodation in Florence?

Yes. Business groups, incentive trips and conference delegations in Florence are booked like tour groups: one request, a group rate, one contract and one invoice, with meeting rooms or a dinner venue added where needed. Send the dates and the number of rooms and the desk returns a proposal within 48 hours (working days).

Upload your itinerary. We return a group hotel proposal within 48 hours.
